Hat Boxes!
Inspired by this collection found on Ruffled,
and this found at Green Wedding Shoes
I set out to cover some boxes with the colors we were using. The hardest part was finding the fabric I really wanted to use. The covering of the boxes was the easiest part.
The fabric I found came in square yards, and thinking that I might want to use it for something else later, I left it that size. I already had some boxes as part of my decor in my home and I didn't want to destroy them by gluing things to them. I was able to use straight pins where I needed to hold things in place.
I laid the fabric out flat (inside up) and set the box on top. Pulled the fabric up and over and stuffed it into the box trying to keep it looking like it was evenly gathered instead of bunched or folded in one place. I did the same with the lid, though it just isn't deep enough to hold all the extra fabric. A rubber band can help hold that fabric together a little bit, or pins. Then I simply put the covered lid on the covered box and tried to decide how to embellish it.
Ribbon and/or lace wrapped around it looks nice. Large flowers and buttons, bows or gathered fabric swatches work great too.
I was using things I already had, so I felt limited in my abilities. It's usually cheapest that way anyway. (Of course you've already spent the money on the embellishments at one time, but often times they are things that were taken apart to be re-used again in another way. Oh the beauty of storing stuff!)
I had one more box I could cover (and it wasn't a special box), so I glued some scrapbooking paper around it and embellished it with a large flower I created with some ribbon I had (and a button and beads).
The photographs aren't professional and have not been touched up, and to me, they seem to look better in real life.

The Brand
Today I am continuing with the crafts at our last family reunion.
Craft for the women (Just a Box ... here) and for the children (Keepsnakes here).
The men at our family reunion needed to create something too, right? We thought so!
So, we cut some slices off an old tree pulled from our family patriarch's home/yard and brought his electric brand.
Each man was then able to take that brand and burn a slice of wood, ready for display on an easil or hanging on a wall or .....
The brand = Lightning Lazy H
We loved the final product here! Ironically, the crafts for the women and men were more simple than for the children, but that just left time for the men and women to help the children. It all turned out good!

More from our last family reunion, where we had a craft for the women, men, and children. They were all quite simple and inexpensive. Reunions have enough other expenses for families, like fuel, food, lodging, etc., we wanted to be a bit careful and keep the costs down.
Last post showed the craft for the children - KeepSnakes. This was a craft for the women. Next post will show the craft or project for the men.
Our reunion was centered around heritage and the fact that many of our ancestors went through severe hardships to be able to live the teachings they had been taught, due to a new faith they had found.
This quote seemed quite fitting, so I searched for a way to use it.
Your future is as bright as your faith.

When searching for a fun craft item for the children for our family reunion I came across a tie snake at orientaltrading.com. It was a craft kit and it looked simple enough to create my own kit.
I quickly went to my husband's closet to find a tie and created my own snake. I had eyes and glue dots, felt, stuffing, and of course a needle and thread. Oh, and a bell I added to the tail. Love it!
I stuffed clear up into the head (but I didn't make it too stuffed and stiff) and then sewed the tie closed so the stuffing wouldn't get pulled out. Here is what I created.
The kids really liked these snakes, though the mom's and dad's had to help make them, they were a hit.
We asked them to bring one of their dad's old ties and then we had some extra's (good thing we did, because a lot of them forgot and wanted to make one). We even used some of their great grandfather's ties. Great for a family reunion don't you think?
What would I do different? I might use sew on or snap on eyes because even though the glue dots hold okay, the kids can pull the eyes off. We also used glue dots for the tongue and I would sew that too.

Saucy's sprinkles is a blog with a little bit of everything. One thing I found exciting was chocolate chip filled raspberries. Mmmmm! Fresh Raspberries and Chocolate...two of my favorite things. I'm going to have to give it a try.
I saw a lot of cupcakes. There were potato chips, bundt cakes, homemade sprinkles, pepper steak, homemade ice cream, etc. I even saw a kitchen make-over....It's so what I want to do, but first I'd better catch up with my other projects.

I want to try it all!
I keep seeing these sites that feed you ... or more like torture you because of the great looking, fun looking, or yummy looking food. I do love the look!
Here are these cute and colorful little chocolate filled spoons for hot chocolate ...
and I wanted to find out a little more about them. So I checked out the source. Of course it was a food spot.
While I was there I noticed the recipes for macaron cookies, which I have seen at many wedding scenes and in a magazine while waiting at the doctors office the other day.
I have been so curious about them, because they are available in so many colors (pink, green, brown, red, yellow, cream). Having never tasted one, I'm curious to know if they are good or just cute. Well, someday I am going to try one ... then I'll know. The article in the magazine suggested purchasing them from a couple different places. I checked them out and ... ya ... it's not gonna happen. $$$$$!
The recipes I've seen have looked a bit confusing, but this guy made it sound a bit more easy, maybe doable ... maybe someday when I really don't know what else to do. :)
We spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so it is definitely worthy of a spot on the blog. So today, I'm adding the kitchen spot. The first site listed on it is this blog that so kindly showed me how to make the cute little spoons and tugged at me again by showing the macarons.

DIY Clothes Pin Magnets
Searching the internet can inspire!
I took these two ideas and formed them together to make my own.
One thing I don't do is keep a record of where I find the pictures I collect in my photo gallery, so I can't say for sure where these ideas came from. I am pretty sure that the clothes pins come from etsy, and the other comes from there or one of the wedding blogs I frequented. I'll post later if I find them.
We were trying to come up with a great vintage wedding favor and finding those two photos did inspire this creation.
We glued pretty paper on new clothes pins (two different colors)- some had burlap glued to them instead of paper. We then added whatever we thought might make a look we liked, using mostly items we already had in our stuff. We glued a magnet on the back of each. No two (of the hundred we made) were exactly the same, though they were similar. Problem was, I liked every one of them.
They really looked cute pinned to the pig panel we had at the end of the reception "hall" or area. The photo doesn't do it justice, cause it looked much better than this.

Piece or Peace of Dirt
I have scribbled notes on pages and ripped pictures and ideas out of catalogs for years about the different garden rooms I want to create in my yard. I haven't put any of them in my yard yet but still love to look.
It was so exciting to find a blog that lets me see some fun garden rooms, and even the title of the blog is garden rooms . They aren't exactly like I'm scribbling and collecting, but they are still beautiful and inspiring. I like the look.
My time and energy and money seems to be spent elsewhere so my yard doesn't show it, but my heart loves the look of a clean and beautiful yard. There is a sense of peace that comes from nature. A beautiful piece of dirt is really a beautiful peace of dirt, especially when adorned with beautiful plants of all kinds.
Some day I'll find just the right piece of furniture to put into my yard so I can sit and enjoy my peace of dirt more fully.

Loving, Saving, and Using the Look
I love looking through wedding blogs. Most of the ideas found at wedding spots can be used for other occasions too. If I Love the Look then I Save the Look in my photo gallery to look at later because someday I might wanna Use the Look.
I did use one look I found. Those adorable paper straws caught my eye and I didn't want to turn away. I really love that look, so I googled "striped straws" and was so excited to learn that I could purchase those cute straws and Use the Look I loved.

Sunday's Inspiration
For me and my house, we use Sunday's as a day to serve the Lord. We believe it to be a day of rest, so my post's for Sunday's will definitely be pre-published, scheduled for posting. They will include things that will spiritually inspire.
To begin this galore-y we have a card that I purchased many years ago and have stuck to my magnet board above my computer. It's a good reminder!
